Favorite Movie Lines

Because it's Saturday night, and I'm in the mood for some silliness.

"I'm not talking about dance lessons. I'm talking about puttin' a brick through the other guy's windshield! I'm talking about taking it out and chopping it up!"--Gene Hackman as Royal Tenenbaum, The Royal Tenenbaums

I've got a GUN out there in my purse, and if you take one more look at me or make another indecent proposal, I'm going to go GET that gun, and I'll turn you from a rooster to a hen in ONE SHOT!"--Dolly Parton as Doralee Rhodes, 9 to 5

"I'm a star. No one ever leaves a star. That's what makes...one a star."--Gloria Swanson as Norma Desmond, Sunset Boulevard.

What are your favorites?

UPDATE: Or, if you'd prefer, least favorite movie lines. Here are two:

"Now THAT'S podracing!"--Jake Lloyd as Anakin Skywalker, Star Wars, Episode I: The Phantom Menace

"This is why I hate flying!"--Ewan McGregor as Obi-Wan Kenobi, Star Wars, Episode II: Attack of the Clones

Well, almost any line in those movies, really. I won't even quote directly that awful "drag" pun C3PO made.

From Being Julia

2 Board Alley

As Julia (Annette Benning) carries on in high histrionics about what a mess she's made of things, how she's a terrible actress, boo hoo, boo hoo, boo hoo, her husband (Jeremy Irons)gracefully kneels in front of her, and while sympathetically gazing into her eyes, says "Nevertheless." And convinces her to take a break.

Ooh boy

I've learned that Star Wars 1-3 are not actually movies that should be watched. I prefer to partake of them through the complaints of others.

I remember walking out of The Perfect Storm when Clooney said, "I fish. That's what I do" -- and laughing my ass off every time a Dreamcatcher character tried to use the phrase "No bounce, no play" in seriousness.

Individual lines don't often make a strong positive impression on me, I guess. I usually remember comedic screw-ups like The Big Lebowski's "Jackie Treehorn... treats OBJECTS... like WOMEN!" or Tom Cruise's flustered mispronunciation of "heinous" in Magnolia or Steven Wright's slaughtering of "behemoth" in Reservoir Dogs.

Favourite lines from movies

"There's a shortage of perfect breasts in this world. 'Twould be a pity to damage yours." Westley (Cary Elwes), The Princess Bride.

"What did you do, wake up this morning and say, 'Today, I'm going to ruin a man's life'?" Jack Colton (Michael Douglas), Romancing the Stone

...and of course, "That's not a knife. THIS is a knife." Crocodile Dundee (Paul Hogan).

Sorry about the potty mouth

From Living in Oblivion:
(As said by Tito, Little person and actor)"Have you ever had a dream with a dwarf in it? Do you know anyone who's had a dream with a dwarf in it? No! I don't even have dreams with dwarves in them. The only place I've seen dwarves in dreams is in stupid movies like this! "Oh make it weird, put a dwarf in it!". Everyone will go "Woah, this must be a fuckin' dream, there's a fuckin' dwarf in it!". Well I'm sick of it! You can take this dream sequence and stick it up your ass!"

And One for you, Clancy:

"We're more of the love, blood, and rhetoric school. Well, we can do you blood and love without the rhetoric, and we can do you blood and rhetoric without the love, and we can do you all three concurrent or consecutive. But we can't give you love and rhetoric without the blood. Blood is compulsory. They're all blood, you see."
(Rosencrantz and Gildenstern are Dead"

From Tod Browning's 1932 classic Freaks (which, IMHO, is one of the greatest movies of all time):

"One of us! One of us!"

"Rules? There are no rules i

"Rules? There are no rules in a knife fight."
—Butch Cassidy & the Sundance Kid

Here goes

First, this exchange from The Never-Ending Story (Atreyu is played by Noah Hathaway, the G'mork is voiced by Alan Oppenheimer):

Atreyu: I will not die easily, I am a warrior!
G'mork: [laughs] Brave warrior, then fight the Nothing.
Atreyu: But I can't! I can't get beyond the boundaries of Fantasia!
[G'mork laughs]
Atreyu: What's so funny about that?
G'mork: Fantasia has no boundaries.
Atreyu: That's not true. You're lying.
G'mork: Foolish boy. Don't you know anything about Fantasia? It's the world of human fantasy. Every part, every creature of it, is a piece of the dreams and hopes of mankind. Therefore, it has no boundaries.
Atreyu: But why is Fantasia dying then?
G'mork: Because people have begun to lose their hopes and forget their dreams, so the Nothing grows stronger.
Atreyu: What is the Nothing?
G'mork: It's the emptiness that's left. It's like a despair, destroying this world. And I have been trying to help it.
Atreyu: But why?
G'mork: Because people who have no hopes are easy to control. And whoever has control has... the power!

And then there's

"I said, 'Stupid. Fucking. White. Man.'" (Gary Farmer as Nobody in Ghost Dog: Way of the Samurai)

AFI list

You must be able to see the future, Clancy. The AFI (headquartered right there in Joanna's Silver Spring, Maryland) list offers some pretty good ones -- including, among others, the Bette Davis classic from "All About Eve," which made me smile upon remembering it.

docile and controllable?

science dude: "we made her female so she would be more docile and controllable."
other dude: "you must not get out much."

Edit to Add: I forgot to mention that this is from "Species".
